Project Summary:

The local community group Swansea Your Story has undertaken a project entitled ‘Swansea, a Town and City in Photographs’ that will collect and digitally preserve photographs and memories of Swansea’s past. The project has celebrated 175 years of photography with a final exhibition at Swansea’s Grand Theatre, Swansea.

The project has collected, digitised and preserved as many photographs as possible from the early pioneers right up to photographers taking pictures of the city in 2012. This has resulted in a comprehensive collection of photographs showcasing the history of Swansea.

The project has preserved as many memories as possible for future generations to study and enjoy. It is appropriate that  in 2013 we celebrated 60 years since the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The end of project exhibition was fitting tribute, telling the story of Swansea through the seven decades over which she has reigned.

All images collected images and materials are uploaded online to an archive by Swansea your Story, with copies deposited with Swansea Libraries local history collection.

Anyone interested in sharing their memories, photographs  or becoming a volunteer is welcome to join the friends of Swansea your Story.
