The new centenary lecture series which is curated and introduced by Professor in Creativity, Owen Sheers is taking place in the autumn term. The series will be welcoming a number of wonderful writers, including a free event with Michael Morpurgo, one of the UK’s best-loved authors and storytellers. Carol Ann Duffy and her favourite court musician John Sampson will bring laughter and reflection to Swansea, and we welcome the National Poet of Wales, Ifor ap Glyn and National Poet of Scotland, Jackie Kay, for an evening of poetry and conversation. The Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy and her favourite court musician John Sampson bring an hour of laughter and reflection to Swansea. Carol Ann will read from her acclaimed collections, including The World’s Wife, The Bees and other works. Lucid, honest and accessible, her profoundly resonant poems explore everyday experience and our inner worlds with great insight, humour and sharp intelligence. Alongside her words, John Sampson performs a virtuoso tour through musical highlights of the past 500 years played on a fascinating collection of period and modern instruments.

The National Poets of Wales and Scotland

Join Jackie Kay, Makar – National Poet for Scotland and Ifor ap Glyn, National Poet of Wales for an evening of poetry and conversation followed by a Q&A and book-signing with the poets. Jackie Kaye, MBE is an award-winning poet, novelist and writer of short stories. Several of her novels and poetry collections have won awards and her first novel for children, Strawgirl, was a huge critical success. National Poet of Wales, Ifor ap Glyn is a multi-award-winning poet, presenter, director and producer. He has represented Welsh poetry around the world in both the Welsh and English language.
