Pupils and staff from Ysgol Maesydderwen made a visit to the South Wales Miners Library last week to make a deposit. The Connected Communities project ‘Researching the Mining History of the Upper Swansea Valley’ was produced last year thanks to a Heritage Lottery grant awarded to the History Club. The staff and children at the school who lead the project worked with the local people, Swansea University staff from The Research Institute for Arts and Humanities (RIAH), Richard Burton Archives and South Wales Miners Library to research and celebrate the mining history of their community.
The children translated their research into a a play ‘Ystradgynlais tell my Story’ which was recorded and translated into DVD format which has now been deposited at the library for visitors to enjoy. The items will now be catalogued and archived in the library for posterity and for future generations to appreciate the work done by the school’s History Club. Full story and pictures here!
